SYNOPSIS
«There is no end to this story» is a homage to the neighborhood around Kolonnenstraße in Berlin-Schöneberg. It is a time capsule portraying unique local shops and their owners, who breathe life into the area. This black-and-white film tells the story of Mena’s (Carol Schuler) last day in Berlin, and her farewell to both her apartment and familiar surroundings. The protagonist's walk through her neighborhood is a blend of poetry and reality. The film conveys the feeling of upheaval one experiences when leaving something old behind without knowing what the new will bring: a reorientation after a life setback – in Mena’s case, a breakup. She wants to break free from her ex-boyfriend and sell a necklace that was once a gift from him – and yet still give him flowers as a parting gesture. One last time, Mena walks through her neighborhood: she meets Micha, the mobile phone seller; Rosie, the owner of a thrift shop; Hai, a Vietnamese florist; and Mohammad, a collector of antiques. From these functional, everyday encounters unfold deep, personal conversations between Mena and the shopkeepers. Though the setting is local, the shopkeepers' stories are universal. They speak of life’s ups and downs, of failed relationships, risky entrepreneurial ventures, falling down and getting back up again. Through these stories, Mena finds comfort and a sense of home before she sets off.
